I often hear people tell me that I must spend hours at the gym or "you must live in the gym", but the truth is, I spend around 45-1 hour at most (0.24% of my day in the gym). A really close friend of my asked me today that he's doing T25 because he doesn't want to spend 3 hours at the gym. Now, for the ones who know me will know that I don't suggest those to anyone for a variety of reasons. Firstly its 180-degree turn into a new lifestyle and that tactic usually always results in what I like to call the hamster wheel of weight loss. What happens is you lose a ton of weight and then come off the program just to gain it all back and a few months or maybe even a year later, one will decide to go back on it and go through the same motions. There's a lot of reasons for this such as hormonal imbalance, metabolism gets destroyed with the extreme dieting which most of these programs promote, and many other big reasons but the main one is that one tried to start this new lifestyle and often don't realize that this is a marathon and you can't come in with a sprinter's mentality in a marathon race. This post isn't why I'm against this intense program or diets, This post is about why you should be aiming to spend only 1 hour at MAXIMUM at the gym.
Why only 45-60 Minuets?

One word "Cortisol". What is Cortisol? Cortisol is a steroid hormone produced by the adrenal gland. The hormone is released in response to stress and low levels of blood sugar and its primary function is to increase blood sugar levels, suppress the immune system and aid in metabolism. So in another word, This is the stress hormone that is released during long intense exercise and does the opposite by making you store fat instead of burning it! This is because Glycogen (Simply put, Energy Cell) starts to get depleted while you're working out so your body is forced to release Cortisol making you store fat. Cortisol isn't only released during exercise but also when you're stressed. Studies have show that stress may cause excess fat being stored due to high cortisol levels. [1]
How long should I workout for?
I prefer an intense an hour session. Go in with a plan in mind and stick to it! in one hour you can accomplish a lot! Looking to shed weight? Spend 30 mins lifting and 30 mins on cardio and you'll burn around 500 calories a session! Do this 6x a week and you've now burned 3,000 calories in one week and remember a pound of fat contains around 3,400-3.5k calories so just by exercising you're losing almost a pound but don't forget your body burn calories just breathing, thinking, and even sleeping! On average, a human burns 1,800-2,200 calories just to maintain the body's functions! NOW on top of all this, let's add a good diet plan which restricts the body even and you'll start to see REAL BIG changes over time. In Conclusion, I've always said this and I always will stick to this, You won't see real progress until you make it a lifestyle. A lifestyle that you enjoy and don't feel like it has to be a chore. This is why many people have such a hard time sticking to a plan, we work 9-5 jobs and then we have to come to a jammed packed gym and work out in an environment that many of us don't feel comfortable in. This is an 180-Degress turn into a land of misery and discomfort. I'm all about being in your discomfort zone and growing but there's wrong and the right growth so starts slow and be excited to workout. Workout in an environment you enjoy whether it's your living room, apartment gym, the gym, park or whatever! You wanna be comfortable enough to say Okay, I'm ready for some challenges" and set some goals for yourself. Start a fun new meal prep you enjoy and watch over time how this new "training plan" is actually a lifestyle now that you're going to sustain for lifelong!
